Vibrant Thing

February 1, 2021

The restrictive and uncertain nature of quarantining and WFH has many of us seeking joy in the simplest of ways. And so, the limitations of COVID-19 have inspired me to expand how I express myself through style; particularly by motivating me to incorporate more vibrant colors into my wardrobe.

Research shows that wearing brighter colors can positively affect your emotions. Which makes sense because when I wear vibrant colors, I feel happier and high-spirited. So, this week’s 'Vibrant Thing' aesthetic is inspired by my desire to bring light and be light amid the chaos.

Now, let's get into the deets darling. Can we have a moment of silence for this orange corduroy bubble jacket? I came across this beauty in Marshalls and it stole my heart instantaneously because orange is my favorite color. And who doesn’t love a good bubble jacket? Come on. So much body, texture, and character packaged into a single jacket.

When developing styling concepts, I look to almost everything as a source of inspiration; even in the things we may deem as irrelevant in a fashion context. Namely, nature--the colors of plants and vegetables. This color combo may remind you of a carrot or tomato *giggles childishly*. It's okay to laugh because finding the beauty in the simplest of things and enhancing it in a way where people can appreciate it differently is what creatives do. Adding green sweatpants to this look did just that.

I love the masculine edge trucker hats provide to an outfit. Goorin Bros is one of my favorite hat companies and their trucker hat collection is undeniably full of color, texture, and taps into the beauty in nature… animals-- which is so on-brand for this week’s look. The white ladybug trucker hat aka “Spot” added a fresh + clean color to balance out the vibrant colors. Lastly, we all know the fortune that ladybugs bring, and in 2021, I need all the good luck I can get.

This week’s styling tip: Whether it be nature, animals, or interior decorating color schemes, I look to the simple things in life as sources of my style inspo.  What are your sources of style inspiration ?
