BLACK X BLACK X BLACK

March 9, 2021

Emerson NYC

Black on black is classic but black on black on Black skin is top tier.

We all know that you can never have too much black. So this week’s look is all about styling simple colors like black with textured garments to achieve an elevated look. In fashion, textures are viewed as a sensory element of design and can evoke different emotions and feelings. For example, textures such as flannel and knits remind us of warmth during cold times. Incorporating garments with textures into your wardrobe is an easy way to add charm and personality to the simplest of aesthetics.

With that, this week's Black x Black x Black aesthetic includes a black moiré (mwa-ray) textured blazer with an embossed bonded textured pair of leggings.

Y’all know how much I love blazers. Primarily because the structure of blazers compliment my broad shoulders and offer a contoured silhouette to my midsection. This blazer is EVERYTHING! The moiré pattern is one of fashion’s most unique textiles. It adds a distinct wave-like pattern to a garment-- reminding us that the details are the bigger picture.

Next, I paired the blazer with an embossed bonded textured pair of leggings. Aside from zebra print being in style, the legging’s bonded texture includes a mix of shiny and matte leather. The texture also added both dimension and character to upgrade what could have been a simple black legging.

This week’s style tip is: If you prefer to wear simpler colors like black, white and gray but would like to elevate your aesthetic -- consider integrating simple colored garments with a texture to add subtle but distinct pop to your look.

Stay tuned for more style blog post every Tuesday.
