Foxy Brown

Chocolate is the new nude.

A part of me is grateful to see that the fashion industry is broadening its lens to recognize the beauty and richness of deeper colored browns. As a parallel, being a Black woman and witnessing colors like chocolate become more popular is personally gratifying being that we still live in a time where black/brown are often deemed invaluable. However, fashion has the power to influence what is widely accepted and disliked. And there is no denying that chocolate is in and downright foxy!

This week I am sharing how I styled this chocolate blazer with boyfriend jeans and a pair of badass mules! So, shall we get started?

Let’s start with my favorite piece--the cut out marked shoulder blazer. The blazer’s deep brown hue, structured padded shoulders, and slick cut out back made this piece an instant purchase. To be completely honest, it was the cut out back for me; so unexpected but fiercely sexy and sleek.

I paired the blazer with a pair of my favorite boyfriend jeans. As a taller woman, 9 out of 10 times boyfriend jeans don’t give me an oversized and baggy fit. So my style hack is to shop for baggy fit men’s jeans and tailor them to my waist to achieve the perfect boyfriend jeans.  With this look, the baggy fit of the jeans balanced out the sexy neutral-toned jacket. Moreover, the blazer’s sophistication combined with the edginess of the jeans reminds me that there is so much fluidity in fashion. My favorite outfits often include garments from opposite ends of the gender spectrum.

My theory is that your footwear can have a party of its own and I ain't never lied; especially with these lime green mules. The jewelry on the front strap of the shoe added a layer of lavish to this vibrant mule.

This week’s style tip: Chocolate is the new nude. Try incorporating brown into your wardrobe in small doses. You can start with accessories like earrings, bracelets and purses.
