4 Ways To Style Brown Like A Boss

May 18, 2021

The Look:

BROWN IS THE COLOR OF 2021. So this week, I’m switching things up and sharing 4 ways to style brown into your spring and summer wardrobe.

Casual Streetwear: Brown Shacket

We are on the cusp of spring and summer and shackets are the perfect throw-on for cool spring mornings. With this look, the dark brown shacket was styled with a pastel ensemble and worn as an added layer to complete the outfit.  Being that pastels are in style, neutral colors like brown outwear offer the perfect balance to the softer colors.

Chic Elegance: Brown Blazer

This deep brown blazer is the perfect garment for people who have an athletic build with broad shoulders. Its structure accentuates your shoulders and contours your midsection. Not to mentions, it features a cut-out back. With this ensemble, I balanced the elegance of this jacket by adding a layer of tomboy ripped jeans. Nevertheless, this jacket can be dressed up with a pair of slacks or dressed down.

Sophisticated Elegance: Brown Satin Draped Blouse

Let’s talk elegance and sophistication. This blouse’s satin fabric, draped high neckline, and puffy sleeves scream regal.  I styled this top with a pair of statement trousers as the shirt’s chocolate hue made for a perfect solid color base to accompany the green floral statement pants. This blouse is perfect for formal occasions and special date nights. WARNING: This shirt is to be worn for the “one”; not just any ol’ guy.

Contemporary Minimalist: Brown Sleeveless Jacket Set

With summer right around the corner, linen is the fabric you want to be sporting. This set is giving a relaxed contemporary look with a minimalist aesthetic. The set’s warm brown hue coupled with its relaxed fit qualifies it as “quarantine comfortable.” In this look, I pulled on warmer tones like orange and deep reds to accessorize the cognac brown set. Styling minimalistic pieces like this can be fairly simple as the canvas is mono-colored and can be worn plainly or accessorized to your liking.

Browns are in the neutral color family so depending on which end of the color spectrum you favor; you can keep it light, warm, or dark. And if textures are added into the equation you can really begin to create a dynamic wardrobe.

Mind, Body, and Spirit:

For me, brown is a coveted color. A color that I have learned to fall in love with, despite being conditioned to think otherwise. Since I was young enough to understand the world, it was reinforced that being born in brown skin was an honor. And as a little brown-skinned girl who frequently saw white and lighter skin tones on television, it took me time to unlearn the ways media uses skin complexion to consciously and subconsciously reinforce a monolithic standard of beauty

So I wear brown with hella pride. My melanin has always been my armor
