Accessories and outerwear are fundamental components of styling that can transform a look. Here are three ways I utilize accessories and outerwear to transform an outfit from basic to bomb:
1. Start with the basics
Simplicity is key. When building an outfit, I start with simple base garments and work my way up. With this look, the blue jean and satin dress served as base garments. The simplicity of this combo made the styling possibilities endless.
2. A lil' outerwear ain't never hurt nobody
Can I add an extra side of bold, please? This vibrant green Hanifa cardigan dress is elegance personified. The cardigan completely transformed the look by adding texture, layers, and a pop of color to the aesthetic. Garments such as vests, heavy cardigans, puffer coats, peacoats, and leather jackets are style cheat codes. They can serve as an extra layer to spruce up an outfit and/or can be worn as a statement piece.
3. “The details are not the details, they MAKE the design.”
Accessories ARE the details, honey. Now to turn the outfit up a notch, I accessorized the look with the following items:
-A green fedora: Fedoras are a statement piece and an easy accessory to elevate your look.
-A pair of hoop earrings: You know what they say about hoop earrings; the bigger the hoop the bigger the… personality LOL! Wearing a good pair of earrings whether they are statement earrings or a simple hoop is another opportunity to showcase your personality through style. Get you a pair of hoops. Ahkay!
-A neon mini purse: Mini purses have become more trendy lately. If you are looking for a lightweight purse to fit your keys, wallet, and lipstick; mini purses are an easy way to sneak a subtle pop of color.
