DENIM X DENIM

Knowing how to maximize our closets is a critical component of being able to style on the go. This week, I styled one of the most frequently worn fabrics. A wardrobe essential and go-to texture. Denim. I’m sure if you take a peek into your closet, it is highly likely that you will find a pair of denim jeans, a denim shirt, and/or a denim jacket. These garments are the primary ingredients needed to create a denim x denim look.

Denim is infamously known for its durability and simplicity but when paired as a top and bottom it can create one of the most simple, uniform, and clean aesthetics also known as the Canadian tuxedo.

The twist with this week’s look is, I utilize two different colors of denim. When styling a Canadian tuxedo, it is customary to pair denim fabrics of a similar hue. However, fashion is a forum for experimenting and adopting concepts from different cultures. So, I decided incorporate a bit of flavor from "The Six" + added my unique twist to achieve a denim on denim ensemble.

Let’s start with the cropped denim jacket. Since I was looking to achieve a minimalistic inspired look, I focused more on the subtle features of the garment vs selecting a garment that made a bold fashion statement. For example, the cropped fit + layered construction on the shoulders of this cropped jacket offered a subtle but utility streetwear edge. Also, It’s light-washed color, offered a 70’s inspired ‍

As a taller woman with thicker thighs, high rise jeans just do it for me. They accentuate my curves in the right places and offer a long enough length to make me feel like an average height person. Because we all know, being tall and finding a great pair of jeans can be like playing Russian roulette. You just never know how it might turn out.  However, these high waisted black jeans were perfect for my denim x denim ensemble, as it included simple features such as the side vents at them hem and high waisted fit.

White pointed-toe boots have been a “closet must-have” for a while for two reasons 1)White can be effortlessly paired with almost anything 2)The sleekness of a point toe boot offers a classy and sophisticated finish. For this look, a white boot is just what I need to complete my denim x denim ensemble.
