Protect Your InnerG

Spring is here and the girls are loving the good weather and the good innerG!

It was only right for me to stay spring-themed and pop-out in a powder yellow set. This set is a wardrobe must-have. It is softly colored, lightweight, and provides enough coverage for warm spring days and cool spring nights.

Now onto the footwear, take a good look at these multicolored New Balance 992’s * deeply inhales and wipes tears*... I love, love, love, these sneakers. The sneaker’s color scheme offers a variety of colors for me to pull and style from. I think multi-colored sneakers are a cheat code for good style, as it is an easy way to style an outfit by starting with the footwear.

While it's important for us to look gawjus on the outside, it's also imperative for us to do the work on the inside so that we can feel even more extravagant. Which starts with protecting our inner peace and overall innerG (energy). InnerG is defined as the balance and flow of our mind, body and spirit. And when well-balanced, we exist in abundance, gratitude and confidence. So this week, I am spilling the tea on the best ways to protect our innerG . Here are two ways we can be vigilant about protecting our inner-G.

1. Evaluate where you spend your mental and emotional inner G: What you focus on will flourish. Do you spend most of your time worrying? Invested in other people’s problems? Scrolling through social media? Or are you being mindful of your negative thoughts and replacing them with positive thoughts? Are you spending time with yourself - reading, stretching, meditating?

Needless to say, we all know the side effects of pouring from an empty cup. A great way to ensure that we stay emotionally and mentally fulfilled is to pour energy back into ourselves by doing restorative practice and being intentional about the thoughts that consume our minds. One of my favorite InnerG protection practices is to listen to abundance and confidence mantras in the morning. Before I start my day, I want my brain to absorb as many healthy thoughts as possible. While I'm not always the best at remaining consistent at this, I can always tell the difference in my moods when I start my days with gratitude and positive thinking.

2. Carving out time to hit pause to assess your emotional state: With work, personal stuff, and navigating the pandemic at the forefront of our minds, if we aren't careful we can go days without checking in with ourselves. A great way to protect your innerG is to take inventory of your emotional state. Whenever I’m overwhelmed, I’ve found it helpful to hit pause and assess my emotional state by asking the following questions 1. What am I feeling? 2.Why am I feeling this?  3. How can I honor my emotions?

Though I may not be able to answer all of the questions in the moment. It teaches my brain to practice processing emotions instead of allowing my feelings to be internalized and suppressed.

For example, as a Black woman, I find myself having to hit pause whenever I come across a racially charged article, tweet, or post. I do it now more than ever because I've noticed how desensitized I've become to seeing Black bodies unlawfully murdered, policed and targeted. So to give my psyche a much needed break, I hit pause to disengage and check-in with myself.

Looking good and feeling good go hand-in-hand. One cannot happen without the other. Let us be intentional about cultivating our outside appearance and innerG
